چکیده
Psychiatry faces a number of challenges, among them are the reconceptualization of symptoms and diagnoses, disease prevention, treatment development and monitoring of its effects, and the provision of individualized, precision medicine. Achieving these goals will require an increase in the biological, quantitative, and theoretical grounding of psychiatry. To address these challenges, psychiatry must confront the complexity and heterogeneity intrinsic to the nature of brain disorders. This chapter seeks to identify the sources of complexity and heterogeneity as a means of confronting the challenges facing the fi eld. These sources include the interplay between genetic and epigenetic factors with the environment and their impact on neural circuits. Moreover, these interactions are expressed dynamically over the course of development and continue to play out during the disease process and treatment. We propose that computational approaches provide a framework for addressing the complexity and heterogeneity that underlie the challenges facing psychiatry. Central to our argument is the idea that these characteristics are not noise to be eliminated from diagnosis and treatment of disorders. Instead, such complexity and heterogeneity arises from intrinsic features of brain function and, therefore, represent opportunities for comGroup photos (top left to bottom right) Nelson Totah, Huda Akil, Rob Malenka, Quentin Huys, John Krystal, Angus MacDonald III, Wolfgang Pauli, Huda Akil, John Krystal, group discussion (Peter Kalivas, Huda Akil, Angus MacDonald III), group discussion (Quentin Huys, Wolfgang Pauli, Rob Malenka, Deanna Barch), Nelson Totah, Tiago Maia, Wolfgang Pauli, Huda Akil, Quentin Huys, Nelson Totah, Angus MacDonald III, Tiago Maia, Rob Malenka From “Computational Psychiatry: New Perspectives on Mental Illness,” A. A day in the life of a psychiatry resident: a pilot qualitative analysis.
OBJECTIVE The topic "A Day in the Life of a Psychiatry Resident" is an opportunity to explore residents' experiences to inform the delivery of education. METHODS An open-ended, qualitative approach was used in a pilot project to explore contemporary residents' experiences with education, similar to a patient-centered model of health care. RESULTS Key themes for residents include balancing m...

Predatory journals exploit open access publication method; they do not carry out the peer review process and editorial assessment properly and publish unassessed articles for financial gain. According to a recent investigation published in the Lancet Psychiatry Journal, about 20% of authors or co-authors of articles published in predatory psychiatric journals have been Iranian. This substantial...

متن کاملI-14: Novel Concepts in Molecular Pathology May Open A New Era in Treatment of Clinical Varicocele
Background Despite the long history associated with varicocele, it remains one of the most controversial issues in the field of Andrology. The main base of this is our current understanding of the pathophysiology of this disease. This has hampered treatment and management of varicocele, especially regarding why, when and to whom varicocelectomy should be applied. The main molecular pathology of...
